Temporary Part-Time Special Needs Resource Consultant

 

Duration: Temporary contract, ending December 31, 2023

Location: Grey County Hours: 32 hours per week – Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 4:30 with flexibility required for some evening hours

Hourly Wage: $26.98 per hour

As a member of the Special Needs Resource Program, the successful candidate will:

• Screen, assess and provide inclusion strategies, resources and adapt interventions to meet the diverse needs of children with special needs in licensed child care settings

• Provide developmental information and anticipatory guidance to early childhood educators and parents

• Develop service plans and individual support plans for children in collaboration with early childhood educators and parents according to the practices of the workplace and in accordance with the Child Care Early Years Act and Ministry of Education requirements

• Support families who have a child with a developmental delay or diagnosed disability

• Establish working relationships with other community- based service providers and allied professionals

• Offer service coordination and planning for transition to kindergarten for families and service providers

• Advocate at the local level to ensure children and families receive the services they need

Qualifications:

• A degree or diploma from a University or College of recognized standing in Early Childhood Education

• A post diploma Resource Teacher Certificate or equivalent

• Membership in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators

• A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in formal licensed child care settings

• Work related experiences involving interdisciplinary team work with education, health, developmental and children’s mental health services

• Knowledge of the local children’s services system, and resources

• Demonstrated competencies working with infants, toddlers and preschoolers with delays in development

• Demonstrated understanding of core issues related to lifelong disability/community living and ability to support families in addressing those issues within a family-centred/directed model

• Theoretical and applied knowledge of child development, family systems theories, individual family service planning, atypical infant and child development and the impact of disability and delay on growth and development

• Abilities to carry out child developmental screenings, interpret results and write summary reports

• Demonstrated skills in working with community service providers and early childhood educators, group facilitation skills and committee participation

• Demonstrated practical experience in exercising independent judgment and initiative. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal, including record keeping, reporting, presentation and public speaking) and ability to work as an effective team member

• Demonstrated abilities in use of technologies and various software applications, virtual conferencing platforms and tele-intervention

Please be advised that this position involves extensive travel in Grey County and requires the use of a personal vehicle. A valid Ontario driver’s license, First Aid/CPR Certificate and satisfactory criminal reference check for the vulnerable sector is required.
