At Community Living Owen Sound and District, we are looking for outgoing, energetic, and compassionate people to join our team to support people with intellectual disabilities to live their best lives. You will be joining a dedicated team of direct support professionals who are committed to creating a community of inclusion where all people are welcomed and accepted.
As a Support Worker with Community Living Owen Sound and District, you will be supporting people within their home to live their best lives. The Support Worker will support people with all aspects of daily living and explore opportunities to offer the people they support, so they can be as active as they choose to be within the community. The support worker will work with the people they support to encourage them to live independent lives where they are able to complete daily tasks and responsibilities independently.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work each day towards supporting people based on the mission, vision and values of Community Living Owen Sound and District to live their best lives;
- Establishing respectful relationships with people, recognizing their rights as citizens; promoting their dignity and well-being;
- Assist people to develop informed decision- making skills and exercising of choices;
- Support each person as indicated by the person in their Individual Support Plan, Positive Behaviour Support Plan and any other protocols developed by the person supported;
- Carry out established supports required for the health, safety and rights for the protection and promotion of each person;
- Provide support in a person’s home; preparing nutritional meals, administering medication, assisting with personal care and other areas as needed or requested;
- Accurately complete any required documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of a Developmental Services Worker Program/Social Services Worker Program/Personal Support Worker Program and/or minimum 1 -year experience working with people with an intellectual disability;
- Strong written, verbal and non-verbal skills;
- Team player with an ability to work independently;
- Comfortable with web- based technology;
- Current First Aid/CPR;
- Valid Driver’s License;
- Experience providing support to people with complex needs is a strong asset.

As a Supported Independent Living (SIL) Worker with Community Living
Owen Sound and District, you will support people to live independently in their
own homes while promoting choice, dignity, and community inclusion. The SIL
Worker provides individualized support based on each person’s goals, abilities,
and preferences, encouraging independence and self-direction while ensuring
health and safety.
Key Responsibilities
·
Support people in accordance with the
mission, vision, and values of Community Living Owen Sound and District, with a
focus on supporting people to live their best lives.
·
Establish and maintain respectful, supportive
relationships that recognize the rights of people as valued citizens and
promote dignity, well-being, and independence.
·
Encourage and support informed
decision-making, personal choice, and self-advocacy.
·
Provide support as outlined in each person’s
Individual Support Plan, Positive Behaviour Support Plan, and any additional
protocols.
·
Assist with daily living activities as
required, including meal planning and preparation, medication administration,
personal care, household tasks, budgeting, and life skills development.
·
Support people to access and participate in
community activities and resources of their choosing.
·
Ensure the health, safety, and rights of
people supported through adherence to established policies, procedures, and
safe work practices.
·
Accurately complete all required
documentation in a timely and professional manner.
·
Work independently while collaborating with
supervisors, team members, families, and community partners as required.
Work Environment
·
Work is primarily completed in the homes of
people supported and within the community.
·
The role requires flexibility in scheduling,
including days, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.
·
SIL Workers may work independently for
extended periods of time.
·
The position involves physical activity such
as walking, lifting, bending, and assisting with daily living tasks.
·
Exposure to a variety of environments and
situations that require sound judgment, professionalism, and adherence to
safety protocols.
Qualifications
·
Completion of a Developmental Services Worker
(DSW), Social Services Worker (SSW), Personal Support Worker (PSW) program, or
a minimum of one (1) year of experience supporting people with intellectual
disabilities.
·
Strong written, verbal, and non-verbal
communication skills.
·
